What does Diamond Microdermabrasion achieve?

As preparation for IPL Photo Rejuvenation
Performed immediately before IPL Photo Rejuvenation, microdermabrasion provides a clean surface free of dead keratin and superficial debris that would otherwise impact how well the pulsed light penetrates the skin.
Microdermabrasion also stimulates oxygenated blood flow to the dermis and epidermis, where collagen, hair follicles, and melanin are formed.
Haemoglobin contained in the blood is a key chromophore targeted by IPL, and stimulating its presence increases the efficacy of any photo rejuvenation treatment.
As preparation for IPL Acne Removal
People usually resort to IPL 480nM Acne Removal when everything else has failed. The treatment is a sledge hammer against porphyrins that contribute to acne development.
Immediately ahead of the treatment, microdermabrasion is used to suck out pus and contaminated blood, and removed infected tissue. Alcohol is then used to cleanse the blood-rich skin both before and during the IPL Acne Treatment.
Without microdermabrasion to strip the infected 'battlefield' clean, the IPL would have no chance of reaching the porphyrin chromophores and the treatment would fail.
As preparation for RF Skin Tightening
RF Skin Tightening uses soundwaves to penetrate the skin in order to heat the collagen bed located in the dermis. This process tightens and straightens the collagen fibres, which in turn produces smoother skin a few months down the track.
Microdermabrasion aids the procedure by abraiding the rough superficial keratin cells that make the skin look dry and wrinkly.
If the epidermis is smoother before the RF procedure, the collagen fibres won't put up as much resistance to straightening, which in turn enhances the result.
Does Diamond Microdermabrasion hurt?
It doesn't hurt at all. In fact, it's very relaxing. You'll feel a gentle massaging rhythm on the area, and then I'll apply a light moisturiser to protect your newly softened skin.
Diamond versus Crystal Microdermabrasion?
On Diamond Microdermabrasion units, the tips of the handpiece that touches the skin in imprinted with flecks of industrial diamond.
This mildly rough but strong surface gently abraids the dead outer layer of skin.
In contrast, Crystal Microdermabrasion units spray tiny shards of silica onto the skin, essentially sand blasting the surface.
Crystal treatments can leave debris and run the risk of causing inflammation or infection. It's also quite painful by comparison, so I don't offer this service.
Can you perform microdermabrasion on dark skin?
Unfortunately no. The limit is olive, east Asian, and some Indian skin types. Any darker and there can be permanent complications with pigment.
Will I see an immediate result?
Yes. You will leave with skin feeling softer and appearing more radiant.
How many treatments will I need?
A single Diamond Microdermabrasion treatment is immediately beneficial for removing dead skin cells on the surface and giving the underlying skin a fresh lease of life.
Quarterly treatments will help keep your skin looking fresh and improve its texture each time.
